Day 16

We got a good start in the morning and headed up to the Sequoia National Park via shuttle.  Man, what a rough journey!  All of us felt a bit shaky once we reached our destination due to the curvy, bumpy roads.  The boys were in complete awe of the enormity of the trees once we entered the Giant Tree Forest.  They kept saying, "these trees look freaky"!  They do almost look fake with their red color, hollow sound of the bark, and huge size compared to the other trees.  We hiked to General Sherman - the largest tree in the world.  Then we took a shuttle to have lunch at Lodgepole Station and listened to a ranger talk about the mountain lions. We took one last hike on the Congress Trail before heading back down the mountain.  It was an awesome time!  We decided it might be smart to go ahead and get a few hours under our belt this evening since we are heading back into the desert.  So, as soon as the shuttle dropped us off, we hit the road.  We drove 240 miles to Barstow, CA and settled into the KOA for the night.  Bonus - generator worked the whole time!  Much more comfortable driving at night due to the heat!  Of course, the boys went for a "midnight swim" at 10pm before hitting the sack. Next stop...Vegas baby!
