Day 15

So, we got a late start this morning sleeping in until 9am....it was wonderful!!  Our stalker relatives, Mike and Sheri, came knocking while we were having our breakfast so we got to have one last chat before we hit the road.  We decided to stop at Shell Beach on our way out and I am glad we did.  It is so beautiful with the huge rocks rising out of the ocean, the seagulls everywhere, sea otters, crabs and of course the colorful seaweed and kelp everywhere.  There were actually some professional photographers there doing a shoot.  We crawled our way along the rocks, searching for critters until it was time to leave.  Leaving the absolute perfect temperature of 70 degrees of the central coast was painful as we hit 100 degrees more inland...ugh!  We happened upon a diner for lunch where they had a memorial for the actor, James Dean.  Apparently, this is the spot where he met his demise at the age of 24 in a head-on car collision in the 1950's.  The boys seemed quite disturbed at the thought of his crash and Bode said, "He was probably texting".   But we motor on and travel 180 miles to Three Rivers, CA.  It is a small campground with very tight spots.  But it has a refreshing river running right next to it that we checked out immediately upon our arrival.  We made dinner at the RV tonight and have been working on how to tackle the mountains in the morning.  We decided since the RV limit is 22 feet and ours is 31 feet, we better not drive ourselves.  Plus the elevation climb alone would do a number on the RV!   So, we booked a shuttle and look forward to a day of discovering the Sequoia National Forest!  Until then....

Day 14

These crazy California relatives are keeping us up so late....too tired to blog last night!  But we had a great day visiting with family for sure.  We started our day with fishing on the Pismo Beach pier.  Unfortunately, all Norm caught were other fisherman's lines and I caught the pier itself and lost the weight.  Needless to say, we aren't so good at it.  The boys were more interested in playing with the sardines we were using as bait than fishing.  Man, were they stinky when we were all done! Then we went back to the RV and showered up for lunch.  We rode our bikes downtown and met Grandma, Grandfather, Joe, Susan, and Jackie for lunch at Steamers.  It was right on the water and the seafood was amazing!  We took off on our bikes again and went back to the RV resort where the kids played in the arcade while Norm and I relaxed in the beautiful sunshine.  We then hiked back to the grandparent's house and visited with them a while before heading out to Joe and Susan's house, hitching a ride with Mike and Sheri.  We enjoyed visiting with them while the kids played video games and pool.  Then we all took off for Klondikes and had some wonderful pizza!  We ended the night back at our RV site roasting marshmallows and trying to stay warm by the fire.  Another fun day with our great relatives!  Heading to Sequoia National Forest, so until then.....
