Day 9

All I can say is WOW!!!  On our way to our KOA in Arizona, we stop at the Petrified Forest National Park.  It was unbelievable!!!  We toured the 28 mile park with wonderful views of the Painted Desert.  We hiked about 1 mile through the Crystal Forest where we could see and touch the petrified wood.  Many looked like colorful crystals!  Picture includes the forest in the background.  We took two large bottles of water with us and were amazed to find that we were empty only half way through our route.  It was only like 80 degrees but VERY dry....we were parched!  Definitely no humidity here as we experience in the East.  We continue our journey and filled up with gas once again along the way.  Price is less than we anticipated, running about $2.65.  It is still pretty painful with each visit with such a large tank.  But I am not complaining!  After a few hours of hiking and site-seeing, the boys were fast asleep for the remainder of our ride to our KOA.  We pull into Williams, AZ after traveling about 370 miles.  Really nice KOA so the kids awoke promptly and played some mini golf while we waited on the pizza delivery guy.  Norm is now watching a Dodger's game (he is "in heaven" ) with all the windows open - the temperature here is awesome at 73 degrees with a nice breeze. Kid's are setting up elaborate Lego fortresses with the volcanic rock surrounding us. Some mention of being "homesick" from Bode.  He misses his buddies and his Kindergarten teacher, Michele Alexander, mainly when he is tired.  For the most part, we are all adjusting very well to life on the road.  I have lost all concept of time, ignored my blackberry, enjoying each moment.  Norm has his State Farm laptop handy and has been checking it regularly, but thankfully, no crisis!!  I am not sure I will be able to sleep tonight anticipating tomorrow's activities.....until then!
